When Starlight went out even further, Granite didn't follow her at first. He was a bit reluctant to follow Starlight. /Maybe she's trying to trick me and then she'll make me so lost I can't ever get out?!/ Shaking himself firmly, the tawny male puma smacked his hard head against the stone wall /Get a hold on yourself!/ Reluctantly, he finally jumped up and out the top. Although the air was too warm for his liking, all thoughts of that was banished from his mind. The wind combed through his fur, and for once in a long time, he felt truly giddy. This was the first decent high he had seen since he had left his mountain homeland. Granite walked to the edge of the cliff and sat with his front feet almost on his hind feet. “Now THIS is the place to sleep at night! How can you stand being in that cramped and stuffy cave when you could be out here with the wind blowing in your fur?”

Starlight laughed as she watched him take everything in. She knew that he had loved the mountains and had loved living there. He had loved living there far more than she had. She had come to prefer the sheer rocky cliffs of the desert, though the heat took some getting use to. She watched him act like a cub again as he took in everything and she smiled. She loved to see him like this. "I spend most of my time out here. I only sleep inside the cave when there is bad weather, or when I have company." She replied, a sly grin on her face as she remembered the night that he had first come to her cave and how she had slept inside the cave so that way she would be able to slip away and hide somewhere in the cave if he got aggressive. That way she would have the upper hand if a fight did break out between them. But now she didn't have to worry about that. "Oh and by the way, I saw you coming days before you finally got here. You know you rested a LOT." She teased him, batting him with her tawny paw.

Granite returned the batting with his own large tawny paw, saying, “Oh no, that wasn't resting! I was just playing with my good friends the coyotes! You know, the kind of game where I bleed and they die? Anyway, I'm not surprised, considering how open this place is.” The male puma shuddered. He preferred the broken view the forest had provided, but here...you could see anything. “It must be hard to stalk prey like that. Even though your fur blends in, you still have to be careful since any movement can scare off prey. It's a good thing that we can go for days on the same kill or even without food!” The male glanced at Starlight, his tone a bit more serious and quiet. “How long were you observing me?” During his journey, Granite had assumed he was alone, and had done certain things he would never have done in front of others, especially Starlight. He would feel shamed if she saw his actions.

Starlight smiled as she laid down a little so that way she could relax. Her gold and green eyes gazed out at the large expanse of sandy desert sprawled out in front of them. You could see almost the entire desert from where the two cougars sat perched. "It is hard to hunt here, but most of the time the coyotes are easy enough to catch and they are always around, you just have to get close enough to one to hook it with a claw and it's as good as eaten. And the occasional stray dog or cat ventures out into the desert sometimes and they are even easier to catch. The trick is really just catching something whenever you find something, whether you are hungry at the time or not." She replied, answering his first question. She grinned a little at his next question and turned towards him before answering. She couldn't help but laugh at his joke about the game he played with the coyotes. "Not to long, just when I first noticed you and then when you started getting closer, I kept a little bit closer of an eye on you. Wasn't sure if you were gonna be a probably or not." She replied, winking playfully at him.

Granite grinned, feeling a little relief. “So that's all you eat now? Stringy coyotes and dogs and cats? Well, giving up deer is a price of freedom I guess! So you haven't seen any other pumas since you moved here? I don't blame them, but it DOES let us be alone here, doesn't it? the large male rubbed the brown stripe on his forehead with a large tawny paw. “So what about that city? Do the humans ever give you any trouble? After all, about all I know about humans is from tales. I've never actually seen one before. After I finally settle down, I don't want them disturbing me! The male puma stared out at the city and shuddered a bit. He hated the unnatural appearance of the blocky stone, yet at the same time calculated how tall they were and began to think how high off the ground it would put him.

Starlight laughed again, softly this time though. "No, you are the first puma to have the guts to come out here besides me and my mom that is." She answered, a pang of sadness hitting her heart for a moment as she remembered her mother and how brave she had been to risk her life just to save Starlight. "And as far as the humans go, I have never seen one yet. They don't seem to have any interest in the desert. Which I don't blame them for but I like it. It is peaceful and quiet." She added as she rose to her paws and came over to sit next to him on the rocky ledges that jutted out around them forming the top of the cliff before it fell away into sheer drops. A purr began to rumble up in Starlight's throat as she pressed her side up against Granite's and rubbed her head against his shoulder lovingly. She loved having him around again. Before she had seen no purpose in life and she had been a cold and almost heartless puma. But now she seemed to have awaken from a deep sleep and she felt like she was back to her old self again.

Granite felt the vibrations of Starlight's purr as she rubbed her hear against his shoulder before he even heard it. Without even thinking, his own purr, like faraway thunder, began to rumble in his chest. Without Starlight, he had felt hollow, unfinished, yet now that he was with her, now that they were mates, he felt the emptiness dwindling and began to feel completed. It was as if she were half of himself witch he hadn't realized was missing. His eyes survived the land in a sweep. Yes, it was barren and desolate, but he could also see little signs of life which he hadn't noticed in his first look. Just the perfect place to be with the one he loved, and maybe even start their own pride with fair rules and justice for all. “Starlight, are there...” The male's green eyes turned down to his mate changing from their normal stony appearance to warm dark pools. Those dark pools swirled as an idea was beginning to occur to him “..are there other places to shelter around this desert? This place is so vast that it would seem a shame to always remain in one place all the time. If it wasn't just us, I could understand, but we don't always have to stay in one place when there is so much territory. ”

Starlight smiled as she listened to his purr as well. She closed her eyes and for the moment just enjoyed being in his presence. She opened her eyes once again and looked up at Granite. She noticed the tone of his voice and it sounded like he had some sort of idea. "I haven't had much need to travel around much, since it was just me but I am sure there are other place to live in the desert. Why do you ask?" She asked, gazing right into his eyes, her own green and gold eyes filled with question and interest. She knew him well enough to know that he was thinking of some sort of idea and she wanted to know what it was. But of course he was going to just hint at it at first and then eventually tell her when she pestured him enough.

Granite's smile broadened to a grin. He noticed a bit of his fur was spiking up on his tawny muscular shoulder and smoothed it with his tongue. “Oh...I was just thinking. After all, we DO have this whole place to ourselves and it's not like it's a bad idea either... In fact, it might even help with hunting, but I wouldn't know about THAT until I get more familiar with the place, and then there's the question of if we should try find water first or finding caves...I never though about how much thinking goes into an idea like this!” All this room! I might miss the coolness of the forest, but this is our place! Why should we stay still when we don't have to? Ha! I'm surprised that Starlight didn't think of this before me. She's always been a bit quicker when it comes to thinking.

Starlight grinned as he went on to answer her. She couldn't help but smile wider as she saw how excited it was getting about all of his plans of travel. "Well, I know how much you liked the forest and there is a forest nearby that is not part of our old pride's territory. It isn't huge and doesn't have a ton of wildlife because it is somewhat close to the humans city but I go there a lot, especially during the summer time. The desert is far to hot to live in during the summer. Would you like me to show you?" She asked him, a purr in her voice. She knew he would love this place she had. She had almost forgotten about it and was glad she remembered it. Starlight rose to her paws and flicked him gently with her tail, taking a few steps towards the edge of the cliff, her back to him. She stopped and turned her head to look back at him, a feline grin on her face.

Granite almost bounce like a little cub before he stopped himself, his face covered by an ear to ear grin. Finding Starlight was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He leaped to his large tawny paws, his thick fur aquivver at the thought of walking among trees again. The desert was ok, but trees was what made up part of like, trees and cliffs that is! and took a few steps after Starlight. “Of COURSE I would! Lead the way straight away!” he exclaimed with excitement. “Does it have a pond with fish or something? Are there any places for a good very big den? And the prey, what kind of prey is there? And how big is it? How tall are the trees?” /It's a good think it's only the two of us. If the prey is scarce, then it might be tough for more than one puma to live here... /

Starlight laughed softly at his excitement and all of his questions. She knew that they would be spending most of their time in the small forest. It was a lovely forest, in fact it was one of Starlight's favorite places to stay. It had a large pond and a little waterfall that poured into the pond while smaller streams branched off of the pond and led out into the forest. The trees were the same kind of trees that grew in the mountains, their branches were far enough apart that a puma could easily scale one without losing an eye on a sharp twig. And the prey, though it was a little harder to catch than the coyotes that lept at you, it was still plentiful enough to support two pumas easily. "You will just have to wait and see for yourself." She replied as she began to scale down the side of the cliff. Her instincts instantly kicked in as they helped her navigate down the rocky slope with ease. Once she reached the bottom, she glanced over her shoulder to see if Granite had reached the bottom yet. Her golden green gaze then turned to look out at the horizon and see the clump of green that was the forest. Once Granite had made it down, she took off across the desert floor, leaping gracefully over boulders and shrubs. They ran for what seemed like a very long time. Luckily, the sun was beginning to set and the heat of the day was slowly disappearing from the ground. When they finally reached the edge of the forest, Starlight slowed her pace, and looked at Granite, a smile on her mouth before she padded into the shade of the large trees. She walked in silence for a few minutes until they reached the large pond and the streaming waterfall. Starlight's eyes glowed as she purred to herself, glad to be back at the forest again. She then turned to look at Granite, wanting to see his reaction to everything.

'ooc- OMG! I love that forest! XD Hey, are they ever going to have cubs? I was just thinking about that and I was wondering what your opinion on that was.
bic- Granite skidded to a stop when the reached the forest. As the dark of night has grown so had his speed. His breath was taken away when he saw the forest. /How can she bear to be parted from this lovely place?/ he wondered, /It's almost like home, except no cruel prejudiced pride around/ The male shook his large tawny head. He padded under the trees, taking in their beautiful scents. Of course, the scents weren't quite as beautiful as Starlight's, but that would only make sense. “Starlight...” he exclaimed, “What a beautiful forest! How can you live out in the desert when you have this? No matter how good the prey is out there, it can't be worth it.” The male shook his head. Yeah, it was too close to the humans, but it's not like they bothered Starlight at all. Granite would rather take his chances then be stuck out in the blinding hot sun.

Starlight shrugged and sat down by the pond before taking a drink from the cool crisp water. She did spend most of her time in the forest but sometimes in the winter the humans came a little to close to the forest for Starlight's comfort. And when they did come to the forest, they would bring axes and cut down a couple of the pine trees. Starlight hated humans. They were unpredictable and she didn't want to have to deal with them. She would rather stay in the desert for a month or two until the humans went back to their city. Her eyes followed him as he looked around the clearing they were now in, a smile played at the corners of her mouth. ooc: Yeah I figured they could. I think they should only have one though. We can do it whenever you are ready.

ooc- ok, so now that I know we're on the first page, when they do have a cub, we should find someone to play the cub.
bic- Glancing at Starlight, Granite's long tail twitched as a slight smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. He watched as Starlight sat down to drink the water, and he saw the perfect opportunity. Although he was an adult now, he still like a little prank every so often. That was one of the things that he had missed from his cubhood. Starlight was the only one who returned his good humor. The others were bad tempered about it. The male shook the thought out of his head and turned to the task at hand. Turning he bounded across the clearing toward her and swiftly gave a push hard enough to push her into the refreshing cold water. They both had done so much swimming in mountain streams that he knew it wouldn't be a problem. “Gotcha that time now!” the large tawny male exclaimed with a laugh.
