Starlight let out a roar as she watched helplessly as Fang weaved around her and lunged at Granite. The two males began to claw and bite at each other, each one trying to get the upper hand and hold on to it for as long as possible. Starlight wasn't going to let this happen. She couldn't just sit back and watch them kill each other! She wouldn't. Taking a couple steps towards the two males, she latched her jaws onto Fang's scruff before pulling him backwards with all of her strength, tossing him away from Granite and very close to falling into the pool that lay unmoved. She then spun around to face Fang, her lips pulled back to reveal her dagger like fangs and her claws now unsheathed. "Fang stop it! You can stay here! With us! You don't have to fight for your father's approval anymore! Please just stop this!" She yowled, fury burning like fire in her golden green eyes as she stared at him, her body in between Fang and Granite once more. The fur on her spine and shoulders was raised and her ears were pinned back against her head as she eyed him, waiting.

"I wouldn't stay ANYWHERE with this piece of low life! I don't know how a puma like you could even pick him as a mate when you're clearly so much above him!" snarled Fang, his green eyes glowing. He could tell Starlight was furious, but she would understand once Granite was gone... "Once Granite is gone, Father will calm down, and won't care when I ask to move to the desert! He'll never bother us, and we can be together. Once Granite is gone, we can live in joy! You have to admit I'm better than that immovable piece of stone! You have to thwack him upside the head for him to understand sometimes, right? You'll be better off with out him! You'll be better off with me!"
Granite was shocked by Starlight's response. He didn't want to live ANYWHERE with his self righteous piece of dung! As Fang talked to Starlight, his eyes fixed on Granite's eyes, Granite felt a growl rise in his throat. Fang was making a PASS at his mate!? Couldn't Starlight see that clearly Fang couldn't live with them?!"Just let me take care of him, Starlight! Unless you think he'd make a better mate, cause he's not going to rest until one of us is dead!"

Starlight couldn't think straight. Fang's words cut her deeper than she had ever thought any words could. They hurt her so much because when they had been cubs, you had been in love with Fang. Though she would have never admitted it or even acted like she was, there was no way she could deny it, especially not now. But then she had Granite who was her best friend and she also loved. And yet, even though she loved both of them, she didn't love them in the same way. And watching them kill each other was probably the worst thing she would ever have to endure. Her heart felt as if it was breaking into two pieces and there didn't seem like there was anything she could do to stop it. It felt like darkness was closing in around her. She felt defeated. For the first time in her life. Starlight finally let the sadness and hurt flood into her golden green eyes and she gazed at Granite who was still behind her before turning and gazing at Fang for a long moment before she finally took a few steps away from both of the males. "If you two do this, know that you are tearing me in two. I can't handle this. Not now." She said, her voice soft as she sat down, her shoulders slumping and her eyes staring unseeingly at the ground in complete and total defeat.

Granite's heart almost broke at the look his mate gave him. He couldn't bear to bring her any pain! He ground his teeth together, as he watched her sink into despair. "Starlight, you know I could never do anything to h-" The male puma cut off in a yowl. Fang had attacked him while he was distracted. "This is for you Starlight!" Granite couldn't believe even after his profession of love, Fang ignored Starlight's pain and attacked anyway. A rage boiled up inside of him. With a furious roar, he turned on the other male and batted at him fiercely. claws and teeth shredded through fur and flesh. Fang was shocked by the ferocity of Granite's attack. The other male was stronger by brute strength and he knew it.
Fang stumbled away from Granite. Although he had left the other male with a ripped ear and wound that leaked blood, Fang knew that if he didn't halt his attack, he would soon be dead. /What am I going to do!? If I die... No! It appears Granite has won this round, but next time I will win!/. "It appears you won this round, Granite! But I'll be back." He took a step toward Starlight. "Starlight, I...will be back! There's too much to think about, and you've given me a lot to think on. Don't despair, Flower of the Desert! I WILL return, and maybe this time, I will have answers to some of the things you said." Fang tried to take another step, but when Granite growl, he turned and fled. Despite his wounds, he moved quickly.

Starlight collapsed onto the ground, not caring what happened anymore. Her eyes stared blankly out at the desert, the heat waves radiating off of the ground and making the whole desert look like it was an ocean rather than the sandy floor that it really was. Yowls of fighting reached her ears and she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the sounds of the two males fighting. When the growls finally stopped and silence filled the air, she opened her eyes once more and saw the fleeing shape of Fang disappearing into the ocean of sand. After a long moment, she rolled over so she could see Granite, sadness still in her eyes but the defeat that had been there before now vanishing slowly. At least she knew they were both alright. A small smile crossed her feline muzzle as she gazed at him, noticing the small wounds he had and feeling thankful that was all that he had recieved. Starlight sat up a little, propping herself up with her forelegs and her golden green eyes shifted to look down at the soft grass she was now laying on, unsure of what to do or say.

Granite looked down at his mate. His dark tail flicked in annoyance of Fang's stupidity. Why did he have to go and do that, even after what Starlight said? In Granite's mind, Fang did NOT love Starlight because he would have gone through with killing Granite, even though it clearly would have hurt Starlight. Walking over to Starlight, the large male puma nuzzled her tenderly. "Are you ok?" he asked. "When I saw it was hurting you, I didn't want to go so far, but I had to defend myself. There's no telling what will happen now, but I don't know what I'd do if I lost you in anyway."
